A Buxton Landmark,
With a New Story to Tell
Long before there was a restaurant here, there was the Mustard House.
Standing at the corner of Routes 202 and 22, this historic Buxton home has been part of the landscape for generations. Built around 1790, the property is identified in its deed as the Ivory Libby place and sits in an area long known to locals as Duck Pond Corner. Old photographs suggest it was once an active farm, and over the years, the building has watched Buxton grow and change around it.
Today, we’re proud to write the next chapter.
Why The Mustard Public House?
For years, locals knew this landmark simply as The Mustard House. When it came time to name the restaurant, we wanted to honor the building's identity and deep roots within the community. Mustard for the history of the building, Public because it is for all our neighbors, and House from the traditional eatery names like "Chop House, Eating House and Public House" from centuries ago.

Today, we’re a warm, neighborhood gathering place serving elevated comfort food in a building that already feels like it belongs to Buxton.
